MY BLOG POSTS:
Through the gamification system, I had the wonderful pleasure of blogging this semester on the official Sweetland Minor in Writing Blog. I chose to frontload points at the beginning so I would be less stressed later. I’ve always wanted to maintain some sort of a blog since I’ve felt many of my thoughts are blog-worthy and something that people would enjoy reading. Blogging this semester was the perfect avenue for me to develop my informal voice.
As much as I enjoy responding to a specific prompt, my favorite blog posts were ones were I just spent a decent chunk of time exploring a topic that means something to me. For example, in my post titled “Mind Over Matter,” I write about the displacement I feel in college when it seems to be the cool thing to do the bare minimum to get by. Or in “The Life of Language” I talk about how the language we use can affect the relationships we have. Writing freely and for an informal audience allowed me to transpose my thoughts without feeling like I was being judged in the process. Also, I could write these blogs fast, probably because I was just pulling from my thoughts and usually felt strongly about what I had to say.
